Starting from April 1st and until July 1st we are accepting written texts and research works published in print or online on any topic of Russian contemporary art.
The Russian Art Focus Prize together with the Courtauld Institute of Art present an online panel discussion "Inventing new scripts. The Ins and Outs of Russian contemporary art writing".
In 2021 Post-soviet Russia has reached its third decade, how has Russian art criticism and journalism evolved over this time both at home and abroad? What challenges and opportunities are there today for journalists and scholars writing on Russian contemporary art?
With the creation of a new prize, the Russian Art Focus Prize, to recognise writing on Russian contemporary art, aimed primarily at journalists and writers outside Russia, it is a good time to think about the ways in which Russian contemporary art has been documented and critically received abroad. At the same time, what challenges are there for writers today within Russia to present new pluralistic perspectives and alternative scripts to bring this subject to a better understanding within both the public at large as well as the expert community.
Jo Vickery, editor-in-chief of the Russian Art Focus, will moderate an online discussion with:
-Dr Maria Mileeva, associate lecturer in Russian Art at Courtauld Institute of Art;
-Judith Benhamou-Huet, a French journalist, independent curator and author specialized in art and the art market, Paris;
-Christianna Bonin, PhD candidate in History, Theory and Criticism of Architecture and Art at MIT, journalist;
-AES+F, Russian Artist Collective;
-Sergey Popov, art historian, curator, owner of Pop/off/art gallery, Moscow;
-Elena Sudakova, founder of Grad cultural platform, London;
The talk will be held on Zoom, and open to join, the link will be published on the eve.
We invite art critics, journalists, researchers, curators and those working in the field of contemporary art.
